Many societies and cultures throughout the world and through the centuries have decorated their horses for a variety of reasons. Protection from evil spirits, as a proclamation of one’s wealth, some used the decorations to show others who they were or what they had done. Some used the decorations to enhance desired characteristics or to heal. We still follow this time honored tradition by decorating our horses with ribbons when we win at shows.

Native Americans decorated their horses with all forms adornment. They used the beads, bone, feathers and paint to tell a story—each color was symbolic, each symbol had a meaning- it was easily visible and all knew what the story was of the horse and rider pair. This kind of partnership was an inherent part of the Native American’s relationship with his horse.

Today we offer the Harmony Horse Necklace for you and your horse. Yes-- they are pretty and fun. They are guaranteed to attract attention when you wear them. BUT they really will make a difference in your riding. The jingle gives you, the rider a focus. In return you become more attentive and less tense when you ride. A calm, relaxed rider begets a calm, relaxed horse.  Riders from all disciplines are using them for arena and ground work as well.

When you are out on trail, the gentle jingle serves several purposes. It warns oncoming trail users and small critters of your presence.-thus helping to eliminate the amount of “spooks” on the trail.

If you are in the lead, the steady jingling behind you lets you know that the riders and horses behind you are safe and steady. The bells can act as a warning if the horses behind become restless with as a change takes place in the beat of the bells.

Many people feel that their horses will be too spooky to wear the necklace. That is simply not true, after a reasonable introduction to the necklace—every horse becomes quickly comfortable wearing them. In fact all become “desensitized” to the newness of the necklace and its jingling bells within minutes of being introduced to them

Riders coming from another direction have told me that they heard us coming on the trail and thus having been alerted the horses themselves are no longer startled when we come around the corner. I have seen the critters move off the trail ahead of us.

No matter what you call them —Rhythm Beads, Speed Beads or Harmony Horse Necklaces this piece of “jewelry” is fast becoming the next new trend.

"Miriam gave me a custom necklace for Lassiter and then surprised me with another custom one for Yosemite using the colors of his blanket.  I had never heard of them before and thought what the heck, I have used them on Lassiter numerous times now and I swear there is a difference in his attitude on the trail than when I don't use them.  I noticed a difference in Yosemite too, but since he is back in training with Reed he is off limits to me at the moment, so I can't experiment like I did with Lassiter.  It seems to me that the jingling bells on the necklace create a rhythmic distraction for the horse and also keeps the rider focused on the task at hand rather than what could be a distraction in their surroundings on the trail.  The beauty of them though is that the jingling bells don't take away from the sounds of nature or keep you from carrying on a conversation with whomever you might be riding with.  The color of the beads used on the necklace has a meaning behind it and also comes with a charm which has a meaning and symbolism related to it.  Since no one around here has ever heard of them, when you are out on trail you get a lot of compliments from passing riders."

These necklaces are made from lacing, beads and various pewter and/or gemstone pendants and all have jingle bells. When your horse bends down, the necklace stays in place because every necklace comes with a clip that fastens to the mane to hold the necklace securely in place.

They are designed to sit right on the “driveline” area of a horse’s neck. Necklaces are designed to not interfere with a breast collar or the reins.
